Font - Vice Principal tries to give me detention for ends with him absences, no longer allowed to make attendance related decisions A little long, and its not that petty, but knowing that he didn't get to just turn an excused absence into an unexcused one and that he wasn't allowed to do it to anyone else still makes me feel better about what happened. Approx 15 years ago.

Font - My senior year of high school my bio dad decided to implode our lives. Between him causing drama, my dog of 12 years passing away, wisdom teeth removal, first period (lasted a month and I was through supers in less than 4 hours), and doing college campus visits I missed a bit of school. Some days I was so physically ill from the emotional toll (undiagnosed ADHD, and I just needed a break.

Font - One of my vice principals (Mr. Rules) decided that I had missed too much school, even though my mom called me out and it was all approved absences. He caught me one day and told me that I had to attend detention unless I had a dr's note for my absence the day before. No warning, no meeting with the truancy officer, no meeting with the school councilor. Mind you I was maintaining a 3.8 GPA, involved in several extra curricular activities, and a part time job.

Font - After classes I called my primary care's office and they agreed to write me a note. My mom had called the nurse line to see if they felt I needed to come in for apt when I had been out. So they had a record of my fever and symptoms, and the dr recommendation to stay home. Swung by, picked up the note, went back to school before detention started.

Font - The other vice principal (Mr. Smith) was at the desk when I got there and the one who wanted to give me detention was elsewhere. Mr. Smith was surprised that I was there and asked if he could help. I explained everything, and showed him my note. Told me he would pass along the note to Mr. Rules and not to worry about the detention.

Font - On my way out the front door Mr. Rules catches me and asks where I think I'm going as detention is about to begin. I kindly advise him that I just dropped off my dr's note with Mr. Smith who had said I didn't need to stay since I full-filled Mr. Rules' requirement. I could see a whole range of emotions flash across Mr. Rules' face, but he begrudgingly let me go (the vein in his forehead looked ready to pop).

Font - I told my mom what had happened, she called the head principal (I don't know what was said), I know that she had a conference call with someone from the school board, and the school councilor. She shared the litany of things we were going through, along with my mental health state, and a few other items that were happening.

Font - Mr. Rules was no longer allowed to discuss my attendence with me the rest of the year. Even though he would glare at me or ignore me whenever we were in the same room. I also heard that he wasn't allowed to make any other decisions about attendance issues/concerns without Mr Smith, the truancy officer, or the head principal present. They also instituted a new rule with the office staff that any questionable absences for any student had to be brought to the head principal only,

Font - as it turned out one of the office ladies didn't like my mom or I (it was related to that whole bio dad imploding our lives but) and had taken that absence to Mr Rules specifically because she knew he would change it to unexcused. She was moved from the front office to another area and not allowed to answer the phones after that.

Font - Mr Smith checked in with me occasionally to make sure I was doing okay and if I needed any extra time with the school councilor. As long as I maintained my grades, my teachers had no issues with my performance, and no unexcused absences they didn't bother me about the extra days away.

Font - esoraven 9 hr. ago I get why you think it doesn't belong here but think about it this way, your mom did the petty revenge for you on that vice principal and that office worker so, ta-da mental gymnastics says this is the perfect place! Also, that's amazing and I'm so happy that they got their comeuppance. 305 Reply Share

Font - JumoreJay88 OP. 9 hr. ago Yes! My mom was the real hero of this! Thank you! She was holding it together for us that year and I have no idea how she did it all. 166 Reply Share

Font - ac Lunatikdeity 8 hr. ago . My senior year honors English teacher was a thorn in my side. I even complained about her but it fell on deaf ears. I did however get to a point I loathed that class and did as little as I could to the point of plagiarism for one report and made sure I made a very small fine print disclaimer of where it came from. All of my reports were always typed because my handwriting was atrocious, and still is, so she never caught it. And I never used them until that year

Font - JumoreJay88 OP. 8 hr. ago I'm so sorry that it came to that with your honors English teacher. I don't know what it is but some teachers shouldn't be teachers. And it because it's the students who suffer for it needlessly. I'm glad you were able to get through the class though, and its the little things like itty bitty foot notes that are the piece de resistance

Font - I'm also fairly certain my mom reminded the school board that she hadn't pressed charges for religious discrimination from a choir teacher a couple years prior during a holiday concert. That she, and many other parents had recordings of.... I need to learn how she wields those tidbits so well.

Font - Special Profile2697. 5 hr. ago Love this! I once had a vice principal tell me I couldn't write my own excuse notes once I turned 18 without written parental permission. I pointed out I could enlist in the Army without it and be legally held accountable for my signature and as a matter of principle, that would not happen. Continued to excuse myself for the remaining 2 months of school. Not that I was skipping either! I had a 2 day volunteer opportunity that I took.

Font - JumoreJay88 OP. 2 hr. ago One of my friends had a a similar issue once they turned 18! Like you've got proof its not just to skip, you're being productive and learned valuable skills (I hope). I'm so sorry that you even had to deal with that though.
